The Ride #4

A small detail, a teaser if you will, of an image I did for the next issue of The Ride, published in May '10 ( I've been asked to hold back publishing the full image until then).

Its a piece about cycling in the Rockies

Luigi's Deli - Gift Card

A design I've just completed for Luigi's Delicatessen in Chelsea, an Alladin's cave of Italian culinary delights. Got this job partly on the strength of the work I did for Nonna's Deli @ York & Albany just before Christmas.

Go Red - Exquisite Corpse

A piece being printed up today at the Print Club. Its for the GO RED! Campaign, for Richard House, London’s first Children’s hospice.

The idea is like the parlour game Exquisite Corpses, where different people creat different parts of a body unaware of what the previous artist has created. At the end the bizarre figure is revealed, made up of the various pieces. The final bodies in this case, made up of 3 parts by 3 seprate artists, will be sold in a charity auction. I was assigned the body and arms.

These designs are based on French prison tattoos from the turn of the last century.

The Humpback's Wail by Chrissie Gittins

The front cover for a book of poetry for children
by Chrissie Gittins that I'm illustrating.

They're great poems and a delight to work on.

I'm very happy with this design. I love the huge bulk of the Whale compared to the small tight room and the delicate table, chair and tea set.

Old Russia

Here the writer Nikolai Karlovych Appultov hurries along the main road, Bolshoi Prospekt, of his native town of Bielostabalsk. He is headed for Old Dashka's café, where Dashka's daughter Magda makes "the finest sour-cherry dumplings in all Russia" Nikolai claims with absolute conviction.
